Environmental Policy

Environmental

Standish Sports and Uniforms (T/A Impressions) is primarily a school uniform retailer but also provides work, leisure and sportswear. We also print and embroider garments. We own a company vehicle. We employ a number of staff split between 2 sites. This number increases in the summer months. Our policy has been created by our Managing Director who has ultimate responsibility.

Our main waste outputs are packaging that the garments arrive in from suppliers and carbon emissions from our company, staff and delivery vehicles along with standard office products.

Paper and cardboard

  • We will always buy recycled paper products unless there is no other alternative.
  • We will reuse and/or recycle all paper where possible.
  • Our paper and card is collected and recycled by a specialist local firm.

Plastic

  • We will regularly inform our suppliers of our wish to reduce plastic packaging as much as possible.
  • We re-use plastic packaging where possible
  • We re-cycle our plastic packaging at a local plant that processes it in the North West
  • We will regularly ask our suppliers to consider the amount of micro plastics in their products
  • We have banned the use of single use plastics in the workplace.
  • We use biodegradable plastic bags for all deliveries and where possible use biodegradable carrier bags in the shop. Where this isn’t possible we use plastic bags made from recycled plastic and charge customers to purchase them in the shop.

Energy and water

  • We will seek to reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible.
  • Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
  • Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
  • The energy consumption and efficiency of new products will be taken into account when purchasing.
  • We have installed LED lighting in as much of the work premises as possible and will look to replace all lighting with LED by 2022.

Office supplies and purchasing

  • We will evaluate if the need can be met in another way.
  • We will evaluate the environmental impact of any new products we intend to purchase.
  • We sell garments wherever possible that are manufactured from recycled materials such as blazers that are made from plastic bottles.
  • We will actively promote more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
  • We will reuse and recycle everything we are able to including toner cartridges, paper and office supplies

Maintenance and cleaning

  • Cleaning materials used will be environmentally friendly. We purchase from Splosh, who gives a Crap and a local distributor of chemical free cleaning products.
  • Materials used in office refurbishment will be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Waste

  • We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste.
  • We will endeavour to ensure the waste management companies we use recycle and process as much of the waste they collect as possible.
  • The MD currently drives a Hybrid car. Whilst we have a company Van this is Diesel and so where possible local trip and deliveries and made in the Hybrid Car and the Van is only used for larger Items.
  • Any future company vehicles will be Hybrid or Electric.

Monitoring and improvement

  • We will increase employee awareness through induction, training and incentive schemes.
  • We will involve staff in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance.
  • We will update this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary.
  • We are encouraging staff to reduce the amount of waste products. Staff are provided with a drinks bottle and single use plastic bottles are banned. Staff are encouraged to bring lunches in re-usable or paper containers
  • We will use local labour and materials where available to reduce CO2 and help the community.
  • We will reward staff who come up with energy saving, waste reduction or recycling initiatives.
  • We will have an ECO Week every year where we promote sustainable and recycled clothing.
